LV= Liverpool Victoria Studies Seatbelt Usage

According to research by LV= Liverpool Victoria around 35 percent of rear seat passengers do not use the seatbelt provided, even though it is a legal requirement to do so.

Feedback from the respondents to the Liverpool Victoria survey found the most common reason not to use the seat belt was simply forgetfulness or not thinking about it. This was the feedback from over 40 percent of the people not belting up in the back. Just over 15 percent of those not using the rear seat belts felt it was okay not to on short journeys and a further one percent simply did not want to crease their clothes.

A Liverpool Victoria spokesman made it very clear that not using the rear seat belt could prove very costly, both in terms of human life and also financially. There is an automatic fine of GBP500 for non-compliance and, if there is an accident the driver could find themselves uninsured because the seat belts were not being worn.
